This land is near Alton, Missouri. Alton may be the best-kept secret in the Midwest. Hidden deep in the Ozark Mountains, this small town is surrounded by some of the prettiest scenery you'll ever see. It is located approximately 207 miles south of St. Louis and 160 miles northwest of Memphis, Tennessee in South Central Missouri. The Eleven Point River flows in a southeasterly direction through the county and is popular for floating, fishing, camping, and other water activities. Greer Spring, north of Alton on Scenic Highway 19, is one of the Nation's most spectacular springs and is the second largest spring in Missouri. Other springs and rivers are scattered throughout the county. Alton is the county seat of Oregon County and has a population of about 700. Much of the surrounding forest is Mark Twain National Forest including the Irish Wilderness which is popular for hunting especially in turkey and deer season. The whole area is full of various types of wildlife. Hiking and fishing are also popular activities in this area. Mammoth Spring, just over the Arkansas border, has a flow of about 10 million gallons of water an hour and forms Spring River, a favorite trout-fishing stream. Also nearby is Grand Gulf State Park where you can hike to the bottom of "the Little Grand Canyon". This is truly Ozark Country at its finest. Lots of trees, rolling hills, blissfully quiet valleys and nice neighbors. No sounds of cars, trucks, planes or trains..... Just birds, squirrels and deer. This mostly wooded parcel is 9 acres and has several nice clearings. Access is good off County Road E-206 (also called Oregon Trail), which is a good gravel road. It runs off County E just a few miles south of Alton, Missouri. The electric and phone are right along the road. Most wells nearby are about 150 to 200 feet deep. Sewer is by private septic and you may install your own if you wish. The area is very private yet only 35 miles to West Plains, Missouri, a town of about 12,000 (and another 2 hours to Branson and Springfield). The property is mostly wooded, but was select-cut of the large oak trees 8 years ago so there are still some trails. This parcel is an irregular shape and is about 630 feet wide on the south end, about 785 feet on the north end, 620 feet on the west side and about 664 feet on the east side. It does front Piney Creek on the northwest corner, but this large and very pretty seasonal creek is usually dry. The land slopes to the south and north and is quite pretty. There is also a nice building site just off the road and several more farther back. Price
